Nokia Siemens commence manufacture of 3G products in Oragadam
Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin has urged Nokia-Siemens network to bring in their vendors to reduce the import content in their products.
Inaugurating the new production line of Nokia Siemens at its facility in Oragadam near here, he assured full support and cooperation to Nokia in this endeavour.
He said Nokia-Siemens Networks was one of the largest telecommunications equipment-suppliers in the world.
Thanking them for choosing Chennai to set up their manufacturing facility, he said the company, while signing the MoU with the Government, committed to invest not less than Rs 300 crore and provide direct employment to 400 persons.
The company had planned to commence production of transport modules and next generation microwave radios from the second half of 2010 as well as increase 3G manufacturing headcount from 75 to 210 by third quarter of 2010, Merz said.
He said the company has set up 3G test labs in the country and has trained 3,200 Indian field engineers to support their 3G roll outs.
